UFL I Week One Game Reports

GAMEDAY ONE

On a cold, still day at Academy Field in Headingley, Leeds the Ultimate Flag League kicked off with two classic match ups.

Hawks 31-26 Mavericks The Hawks took the victory in this fixture thanks to an All Academy display from Krishan Johnson at QB, with him throwing for 5 Touchdowns and a PAT. Joe Bliss dragged three of them in, with Austin catching two and franchise player Joe Smith the other. For the Mavericks, Quinn Crossthwaite, Lewis Nicholson, Elliott Duffey and Reeve Landau were among the scorers as they matched the Hawks stride for stride until the end.

Thunder 38-39 Wolf Pack A whirlwind heavyweight contest saw these two exciting teams trade blows all game, through the air and on the ground. The first half ended 26-26 and flew by like a flash. #1 overall pick in the UFL Draft Kailum Sandison was a big factor in earning the hard fought win for the Pack, along with the cool head of their field general Owen Yarwood and the difference maker Matty Cooper scoring the valuable point after that clinched the victory for Coach Gaby’s team. The Thunder showed a lot of potential in the wake of their pre-season hype from Head Coach Sheldon Campbell, with Cam and Zak combining for scores and big gains throughout.
